This is a scenic design for Fellow Travelers, an opera composed by Gregory Spears with libretto by Greg Pierce. My goal with this design was to create a piece where the characters never felt safe to highlight the constant threat and surveillance during the Lavender Scare. I accomplished this by keeping the brutalist architectural style of Washington D.C. and overexaggerating the use of tinted glass. The tinted glass reminds us that someone unseen is always watching, as if we are in an interrogation room the entire show.
